Makayla Watson is presently a summer associate and will join McCausland Barrett & Bartalos, P.C. as a full time Associate in 2025. Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Makayla has found a home away from home in Kansas City, Missouri. She is currently a rising 3L at the University of Missouri School of Law, where she has distinguished herself both academically and through leadership.

During her time at Mizzou, Makayla was a 1L moot court finalist and served as the President of the Black Law Students Association. In her role as president, she spearheaded programs that fostered diversity, equity, and inclusion, supporting students throughout their law school journey. She is also an active member of the Women’s Law Association, where she has formed close friendships and professional connections.

Makayla spent her first summer as a legal intern working as a Staff Counsel clerk with the Missouri Public Service Commission Office. In this role, she collaborated with staff attorneys to draft legal memos, motions, and complaints against water utility companies, gaining valuable practical experience.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in Africana Studies from the University of Central Missouri.

Outside of her studies, Makayla enjoys spending time with her two nephews, exploring new restaurants with friends, and watching new TV shows.
