Paul J Taylor joined McCausland, Barrett & Bartalos, P.C. as an Associate Attorney in February 2024. Paul is a Kansas City native. Paul attended Emporia State University for his undergraduate degree. Before graduating, Paul lost his leg in a farming accident involving a grain auger during a summer job in rural Kansas in 2009. After losing his leg and overcoming recurring infections and surgeries, Paul adapted to an above-the-knee prosthesis and learned to walk again. His interest in the practice of law grew during and after his worker’s compensation and product liability lawsuits arising from his accident.

After Paul graduated from law school in Oklahoma City, he returned to Kansas City and married his wife, Amber. While studying to take the Missouri Bar Exam, Paul worked as a Bailiff/Law Clerk for Associate Circuit Judges Robert Trout and Kyndra Stockdale in Division 32 in Independence, Missouri, handling the supervision of dockets including small claims, a collections docket, periodically covering a landlord-tenant docket, civil bench trials, and a criminal docket for probation violations.

After clerking, Paul was an Assistant Missouri Public Defender practicing criminal defense in the Kansas City Trial Office in Jackson County for 2.5 years, representing indigent clients accused of felonies and misdemeanors.

Paul then transitioned to private practice as an Associate Attorney role at BurnettDriskill, Attorneys, practicing in the areas of Social Security disability, ERISA and Non-ERISA long-term and short-term disability appeals, Railroad Board Disability Claims and personal injury claims for approximately 1.5 years.
